Lydia was born in Highgate to Thomas Boileau and Ann Boileau nee Fry. Thomas was a Police Officer. She was baptised in the church of St Michael, Highgate on 12 Nov 1848. St Michael's was finished in 1832 from a design by the architect Lewis Vulliamy. It is neo-Gothic in style. By the time Lydia was 2 she was living in Camberwell. In 1861 she was in Stoke Newington at Spenser Road. On 21 Apr 1870 she married Thomas Dyke Turner, a Bookbinder, in Stoke Newington In the 1871 census she is working as a servant to James Baker, Private Secretary to the Marquess of Westminster, living at 15 Lingfield Rd, Wimbledon. It seems that she was working and living alone to save money for the future. Their first child wasn't born until 1873. In the 1881 census Thomas is now a Commercial Traveller and they live in Cowper Rd, Finsbury. Thomas was moving up in the world, he was a manager of a leather department in the 1891 census in Stoke Newington. However, in 1893 Thomas died, and despite being born in Marylebone and living at the time of his death in Stoke Newington, he was buried in Leyton. By 1901 Lydia is living in the newly built Marlborough Buildings in Chelsea. This area had been chronically poor when the Improved Industrial Dwellings Company built the 2 tower blocks on the site of slum cottages, as a scheme for improving social housing for the poor. By the 1911 census Lydia is living with her son George Arthur Turner and his family at 179 Albion Rd, Stoke Newington. George is an assistant to the District Surveyor. Lydia died at the age of 69 on 21 Dec 1917 and was buried in Teddington Cemetery
