Edgar was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He married Minna Hewson in Lahore on 2 Oct 1912. They had 5 daughters (Agnes Esme, Ume, Vivienne, Peggy Honor and Lilian Maud) and 2 sons (Edgar Maurice and Leslie Arthur). Ume died in 1916. Edgar died in Tndla, Bengal on 5 Mar 1931
